Jake Ortner is the bar manager at Bluestem. A native of Missouri, Jake grew up in a rural area east of Lone Jack, MO.While getting his degree at University of Missouri-Kansas City, Jake began his career in hospitality at Houstons on the Country Club Plaza. He spent his time there learning the ins and outs of the service industry and polishing his skills in creating tailored guest experiences. In the summer of 2015, Ortner joined Colby and Megan Garrelts and Andrew Olsen at Bluestem. He spent his first two years there tapping into his creativity and developing his own unique style of cocktail making under Olsen’s tutelage. Now he showcases his ingenuity with unique cocktail menus. Each recipe is inspired from his experiences travelling the world and learning about other cultures. Ortner enjoys sharing these stories with guests at Bluestem, blending history and personal experience in perfect complement to the Garrelts’ Midwestern cuisine.
