Jake Ortner is a bartender at The Rieger and Extra Virgin. A native of Missouri, Jake grew up in a rural area east of Lone Jack, MO. While getting his degree at University of Missouri-Kansas City, Jake began his career in hospitality at Houstons on the Country Club Plaza. He spent his time there learning the ins and outs of the service industry and polishing his skills in creating tailored guest experiences. In the summer of 2015, Ortner joined Colby and Megan Garrelts and Andrew Olsen at Bluestem. He spent his first two years there tapping into his creativity and developing his own unique style of cocktail making under Olsen’s tutelage. After being promoted to bar manager, he began to showcase his ingenuity with unique cocktail menus. Each recipe is inspired from his experiences travelling the world and learning about other cultures. Now, Ortner continues to enjoy sharing these stories with guests who sit at his bars, blending history and personal experience to create an unforgettable dining experience for his guests.
