Chef Joel Yepez was born and raised in Guanajuato Mexico. He moved to the United States in 1997 and began working as a dishwasher at the Westin Crown Center for a year before transitioning to become a part of the kitchen staff. For 10 years he worked at the Westin, and for 3 of those years he worked 2 jobs at the Westin and the Marriott. Chef Yepez eventually transitioned to the Marriott full-time where he stayed for 13 years. He then started his own catering company for 2 years before coming back to the hotel business at the Sheraton. Chef Yepez continues to work because cooking is his passion and he wants to teach and inspire the youth to work to becomes chefs as well. “Being a Chef is not a simple job, it is an artform.”
